There are albums and songs that you can listen to while in a relationship, when it ends, or after it’s long over, that take you right back to the highest of peaks or deepest of valleys of emotion. It’s crazy because you get transported right to where you were sitting, what you were eating, even what the air felt like. Songs have the power to capture feelings in a bottle inside, and when you hit the play button, the bottle is uncorked and they come pouring out again. It doesn’t matter how much time has passed, or even, how many relationships you’ve been in since.
These are some of the albums that particularly resonate with me when it comes to love:
Mandy Moore – Self Titled Mandy Moore (I know, I know. I was 15, but interestingly it wasn’t my CD)
Banda El Recodo – Basically all of their albums. (Danced many nights away to them)
Death Cab for Cutie – Plans (Thought I would get married to one of the songs)
Imogen Heap – Speak for Yourself (Makes me cry every time)
Drake - Take Care (Dude just goes there)
Katy Perry - Teenage Dream (Nice mix of fun and emotional)
I also may have had one of the best nights ever dancing with a stranger I had just met to Ludacris’s “Stand Up” in a crowded club. It was one of those moments where you’re like, wait a minute, when did I get transported into a dance-off movie? Because that’s how insane it was. It may not have been love, but it was definitely some of the most fun I’ve had in my life.

What are the albums that take you right back to snapshots of love?

Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs “Show Your Bones”. Oof. Karen O’s marriage break up was a way for me to feel my break up. But it also has great upbeat jump around songs. Also, hearing a song from a tough romantic time but without the presence of heartache does one a world of good. That way you can listen to Mandy Moore and have fun!
I will have to have a listen. I know their “It’s Blitz” album but not “Show Your Bones”. I agree, I’ve been re-listening to some songs during some happy times and they take on a whole new meaning. Thanks for sharing, T. xo
