It’s History

I like going through and seeing what’s sitting in my browser’s history from the week, because there’s always something I want to share but sometimes forget.

Here are the random, yet entertaining and interesting links that caught my eye this week:

Kings Speech

King George VI

Kimye Wedashian (here- I’m kind of super excited about this baby.  I know more than one friend who can’t stand the Kardashians or Kanye, but I kind of love them all.

What is an emulsion? (here) – I was making cacio e pepe (spaghetti with oil and pepper) again and had to once and for all figure out what the heck the science behind an emulsion is since it seems to happen so often in recipes.  Basically you’re mixing ingredients that normally wouldn’t mix.  Like water and oil.  Or how mayonaise is made.  It’s pretty neat.

My personal soundtrack of 2012 (here) – Tim King is a photographer that I follow (he goes on awesome adventures around the world), and he put together a post that is basically an online mix tape.  It’s a great idea to be able to reflect back and not only be able to read about what you’ve done, but how you felt through music during that time, too.  Tim also links to this Nike video in his post, which I remember seeing last year, and is totally worth another watch.  The quotes throughout are inspiring and thought provoking.

Coolhaus pre-packaged ice cream sandwiches (here) - I first discovered Coolhaus in LA, and their ice cream sandwiches (which you can customize at their truck) are awesome!  They now sell them pre-packaged, and if I could, I would buy all of them.  Not all of the flavors.  Just all of them.  Period.

Making Things Happen 2013 (here) - Lara Casey is Editor in Chief of Southern Weddings magazine, and she writes posts and teaches workshops about how to make things happen in your life and/or business.  Last year, she wrote about how she would point her gym shoes toward the door to the hallway and go to sleep in her gym clothes to make working out automatic.  So simple, yet it’s the little things that add up to things getting done.  Lara also just wrote this post that included thoughts on her marriage and also dealing with post-partum depression, which was very honest and real, and couldn’t have been easy to write.  I really appreciate people who put everything out there in that way.  It makes you realize that even when you can be so different from someone, your experiences can make you so very much the same.

King George VI (here) – I finally watched The King’s Speech, which I loved, and was fascinated by King Georges’ life.  From suffering abuse as child which led to his stutter, to how is brother was the first in the monarchy to ever ditch the throne, to the fact that he was Queen Elizabeth’s dad (it’s easy to forget queens have dads too!), it’s all so crazy to watch and read about.  You can even hear the king’s actual speech here.
